Move More...Live Better!

You may have heard the phrase "movement is king" or "movement is life."  There is a reason for this! Our body was designed to move. When we don't, it can cause aches and pains due to stiffness, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions that overtime can affect our activities of daily living. That stiffness and those aches and pains, are your body's way of telling you to get up and move!

This can be hard, especially if you are someone who works at a desk all day (much like the majority of the American population nowadays).  So below are some quick tips for things you can do in your office, even at your own desk, to help you stave off those pesky aches and avoid more chronic conditions.

  1. Every hour make sure you get up and move! Take a walk around the office, go grab some water, say hi to a friend down the hall. Get those legs moving!!
  2. Stay hydrated - water is needed for muscles to function properly. The more hydrated you are, the less chance they have to tighten up and cause discomfort.  Plus, the more you drink the more you have to get up and take that little walk to the restroom (see #1).
  3. Perform some basic stretches - there are a number of good ones that help to counteract that seated flexed forward position. Below are a couple of links with some of my favorites that can be performed right there next to your desk.
